The groups behind a planned housing and retail development in Downtown Sydney have been given an extension on the project.
The plan is to build a commercial retail and apartment building on top of the empty lot next to the Holiday Inn.
The Development Manager with Tier Too Properties Limited, Douglas MacLennan, gave a presentation to Regional Council today on where the proposed development is at, saying they need more time to close on the property and invest further in design.
MacLennan says plans to build a hotel attached to the development have been put on hold for now because the hotel partner has changing circumstances and competing priorities in the region.
Council voted to approve the extension to the project but some councillors raised concerns about the amount of time it’s taking to get the project off the ground.
Mayor Cecil Clarke says it’s a problem for developments across the province.
