Local Schools Get Money From Dave Gunning Zero Hunger Fund

Two schools in the CBRM and two in Victoria County are among the 34 recipients in the first year of the Dave Gunning Zero Hunger Fund.

The fund was set up to fight food insecurity in rural Nova Scotia schools.

Glace Bay Elementary, Allison Bernard Memorial High, Baddeck Academy and Cape Smokey Elementary are among the successful applicants this year with more than 80 applications submitted.

Awards from the Fund range between $1,000 and $3,500.

The Fund’s namesake, singer/songwriter Dave Gunning says the demand is greater than what the fund is currently able to offer and he says there’s still time for people to make a donation before Christmas.
