Teachers Union Holding Runoff Vote For President, Today

The Nova Scotia Teachers’ Union is holding a runoff vote today in its election for union president.

The runoff comes after none of the five candidates got a majority of votes in a vote earlier this month.

Peter Day and Shawn Hanifen are on today’s ballot with the other three candidates dropped from the slate.

The union says 69 percent of its 10-thousand members took part in the first electronic vote.

The winner will be elected for a two-year term, starting on August 1st.
