Charges Laid After Standoff In Sydney Office Building

Regional Police say a 54-year-old man is facing charges after reports someone had a knife inside an office building on Prince Street in Sydney today.

They say officers were called to the building shortly after 8:30 this morning and found a man inside a room on the 2nd floor holding a knife.

They say the man was alone inside the room and the 2nd floor was evacuated.

Police go on to say crisis negotiators successfully encouraged the man to surrender his knife and come out of the room at about 10:15, when he was arrested without incident.

John Joseph Meade has been remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre, and is charged with Possession of a Weapon and Assault (Threatening Use) with a Weapon, as well as two counts of Uttering Threats and Mischief.
