Cape Breton’s Tuma Young Appointed As Human Rights Adjudicator

Mi’kmaq lawyer Tuma Young who’s from Malagawatch in Inverness County is one of five lawyers in the province who’ve been appointed to a board of inquiry adjudicator roster for human rights cases.

Another five lawyers have been reappointed.

The Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission says the boards are independent of it and are led by a chair appointed from the roster of qualified lawyers by the chief judge of the provincial court.

Chief Judge of the Provincial and Family Courts, Perry Borden chaired a six-member selection committee to assess candidates following a call for applications in November.

The adjudicators are appointed for five-year terms.
