Wastewater Bylaw Passes

The Regional Municipality’s Wastewater Discharge By-law passed second and final reading at this morning’s meeting.

The By-law sets up a new user-pay model for sewage services and eliminates the sewer levy of 19.1 cents per $100 of assessment.

The By-law also creates a new wastewater utility that will see user fees regulated by the Utility and Review Board.

Two councillors voted against the by-law, including Councillor Lorne Green.

He says the user pay system benefits people who have properties with a higher assessment with the elimination of the levy per $100 of assessment.
