Auditor General Calls For Changes To Overspending Rules For A Third Time

Auditor General Kim Adair is calling for a change in the way the province deals with over-budget spending, or additional appropriations, for a third time.

Adair repeats her call in a new report on over-budget spending released, today.

Her audit examined 11 grants and subsidies approved as over-budget spends in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Adair says she finds there was no immediate spending need or adequate justification for any of them.

She says Nova Scotia’s process for over-budget spending is not in line with other provinces across Canada, where legislatures are required to review, vote on, and approve the extra amounts.
