Changes Being Made To Income Assistance

The province says it’s making a number of changes to income assistance.

It says a one-time $150 payment will be given to people on income assistance who don’t qualify for the new disability supplement announced in November.

Beginning in April, the new disability supplement will provide another $300 a month to those who can’t work and who aren’t currently in the Disability Support Program.

The province also says it’s increasing the earned income exemption threshold by $100 for wage earners getting income support through Community Services.

Training allowances will also be treated as earned income.

The earned income updates require regulatory changes and will take effect this fall.
