Man Faces Barrington Lake Wildfire Charges

A 22 year-old man is facing charges under the province’s Forests Act after an investigation into the Barrington Lake wildfire in Shelburne County last spring.

Dalton Clark Stewart from Villagedale is charged with lighting a fire on privately owned land without permission of the owner or occupier, failing to take reasonable efforts to prevent the spread of a fire and leaving a fire unattended.

He’s scheduled to appear in Shelburne provincial court on March 7th.

The Barrington Lake wildfire began on May 26th and burned 23,379 hectares.

Meanwhile, the Department of Natural Resources says it’s gathered considerable information on the wildfire in Tantallon last spring, but it says there’s a high bar for what can be used as evidence in court.
