Premier To Meet With Donkin Mine Operators

Premier Tim Houston is scheduled to meet with the operators of the Donkin Mine next month as concerns grow about the mine’s future.

A provincial spokesperson told reporters this afternoon Houston offered to meet with the mine sooner but he wasn’t able to do so.

The meeting is scheduled for December 7th.

Labour Minister Jill Balser says she thinks Houston will use the meeting to reinforce the message the mine can re-open if it meets requirements set out following a consultant’s report.

Meanwhile, a company with a stake in the business says it’s suspending its quarterly dividend payment to investors because of continuing uncertainty with the stop-work order still in effect.

Morien Resources also continues to say it expects a possible return to production will not be imminent.

However, it says it continues to work to advocate for a potential restart of production.
