Transit CB And Handi-Trans Not Operating Again Today Because Of Work Stoppage

Transit Cape Breton and Handi-Trans buses aren’t operating again today as a work stoppage by CUPE Local 759 continues.

300 local members stopped work yesterday to protest the transfer of a member of another union into one of 759’s available positions without notifying the union.

Meanwhile, National CUPE representative Kathy MacLeod says representatives from the local are meeting with the CBRM at 10:00 this morning to discuss the matter.

The Regional Municipality says the work stoppage is illegal and CUPE said yesterday its members were suspended without pay for the day by the municipality for yesterday’s work stoppage.
