NS Announces Funding To Expand Cell Service

The province says it’s spending $47.3 million to try to bring cell phone service to all Nova Scotians.

It says the Cellular for Nova Scotia Program will expand telecom infrastructure and communications networks throughout the province.

Build Nova Scotia will lead the program that will include a strategy to improve cell coverage for both civic addresses and roads.

Public Works says the first phase of the program will improve cell coverage in the short term using existing infrastructure and the second phase will try to close the remaining gaps in coverage with new infrastructure.

The province also says it’s spending $3.3 million to build four new trunked mobile radio towers to expand radio coverage for first responders in West Bay Road/Marble Mountain and Pleasant Bay in Inverness County, as well as in Framboise in Richmond County and Greenfield in Queens County.
