Province Releases Housing Needs Report & Plan

Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister John Lohr released a five-year housing plan this morning that aims to create 40-thousand new housing units across the province.

Lohr also released a provincewide housing needs assessment report.

The report by Turner Drake & Partners Ltd. estimates there will be a shortage of 41,200 housing units by 2027-28 if aggressive action isn’t taken.

That’s based on the current pace of construction of about 6,000 new units a year.

Lohr says the plan includes 12 key actions that will help departments reach the Province’s housing targets.
