Inflation Rate Drops to 5.9% In January

Stats Canada says the country’s inflation rate was 5.9% in January.

That’s down from a 6.3% increase in December.

The federal agency says prices for cellular services and passenger vehicles contributed to the drop, last month.

However, it says mortgage interest costs and prices for food continued to rise while gasoline prices contributed the most going up 4.7 percent in January.

Nova Scotia’s inflation rate for January was 6.9 percent, down from 7.6 percent in December.
