Inside workers with the Regional Municipality are holding a rally outside City Hall in Sydney before this evening’s Council meeting.
The rally comes with CUPE local 933 saying late last month it was preparing for strike action.
Union members rejected a tentative deal from September 15th with outstanding issues ranging from wages, bereavement leave and parental/adoption leave to wage parity and shift differential pay.
The union represents 138 workers in the citizen service centre and various departments, as well as the 911 and 311 operation centres, police records and lock-up.
The union says the purpose of tonight’s rally is to call on Council and management to end what it calls the current cycle of training and losing staff by offering its members better compensation.
