New Mental Health Day Hospital To Open In Sydney

A new mental health day hospital is scheduled to open at the Regional Hospital in Sydney this spring.

The Minister responsible for the Office of Addictions and Mental Health, Brian Comer, made the announcement at the Regional today.

The office says the new hospital will provide an additional point of care for people living with mental illness.

It says care will be provided by a team of specialists, including a psychiatrist, mental health nurses and social workers.

The day hospital will be open seven days a week for 10 people a day at first, with capacity expected to go up to 15 a day.

Admissions will come through community mental health clinics and emergency departments and referrals may be made after psychiatric care.
