Cape Breton NS Works Offices To Close In Solidarity With Striking School Support Workers

Nova Scotia Works offices in Cape Breton will be closed tomorrow and Wednesday in solidarity with striking school support workers in the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education.

A message on social media states the Nova Scotia Works offices in Glace Bay, New Waterford, the Sydney expansion at New Dawn as well as in Port Hawkesbury and Inverness will be shutdown.

However, the Nova Scotia Works office on Charlotte Street in Sydney will remain open.

The 600 educational assistants, early childhood educators and student support workers along with library personnel with the Annapolis Valley Centre for Education went on strike this morning.

Their union, the NSGEU, says the main outstanding issue is wages with starting pay for some positions as low as minimum wage.
