Bain To Resign From Speaker Position This Spring

Keith Bain plans to resign as Speaker of the House this spring.

The PC Caucus released the news just before the fall sitting of the legislature got underway this afternoon.

The news comes after Bain said on Facebook last week he decided not to resign as requested and would accept any consequences.

The Tories now say Bain has agreed to resign on April 1st.

The Tory Caucus has also announced a number of other changes, including for Deputy House Leader and Glace Bay MLA Johnny White, who will take on the additional role of Chair of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Economic Development.

Premier Tim Houston says now is the right time to assess and reassess assignments, plan for the future and provide opportunities for more MLAs to sharpen their skills and grow as elected officials.
