Glace Bay Emergency Department Has Reopened

The emergency department at Glace Bay Hospital reopened yesterday after being closed since July of last year because of the unavailability of doctors and staff.

The Health Authority says the Glace Bay Emergency Department will now be open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening.

However, Nova Scotia Health says a patient capacity process is also in place to help manage the flow of patients through the department.

It says doctors and nursing staff will assess the workload and patient flow to help determine if all registered patients can be seen and assessed by a doctor before the department closes.

The Health Authority says registered patients triaged with less urgent or non-urgent health matters may or may not be seen by a doctor, depending on patient flow.
