Comfort Centre Opening At Centre 200

The Regional Municipality is opening up a comfort centre at Centre 200 in Sydney starting at 8:00 tonight.

The facility will be open for people whose homes are in the low-lying, sea-level coastal areas of the municipality’s south east coastal region from Gabarus around to the Main-a-dieu area.

It’s open to those who want to evacuate from those coastal areas that are most affected by the anticipated storm surge.

Some cots are available but people should bring items to make themselves comfortable.

Travel is advised only during time when it’s safe to do so.

Space will also be open at the shelter on Townsend Street for those without homes.

The province has issued an emergency alert about Fiona, saying the storm will hit Nova Scotia tonight with damaging winds, heavy rains and a dangerous storm surge.

The alert advises people to say indoors and avoid the coastline and rivers.

People are also being reminded to charge their devices and have enough supplies for at least 72 hours.
