Nova Scotia Power says it will be activating its Emergency Operations Centre at 8:00 on Friday morning ahead of anticipated power outages during Hurricane Fiona.
The Emergency Management Office says central and eastern parts of the province are likely to be hit hardest by the storm.
The Emergency Management lead for the Regional Municipality, Bruce MacDonald, says they’re preparing to set up comfort centres, but they won’t be opened before the storm because the municipality doesn’t want people traveling when it may not be safe.
The municipality says people should charge up all phones and battery back-up units and households should have enough food and water for up to 72 hours.
People are also being asked to consider the risk of trees down near their homes and properties.
The municipality says people should trim dead branches and cut down dead trees to reduce the danger.
