The four Atlantic Premiers have written to the federal government to ask for what they’re calling a short-term extension to submit a carbon plan.
In the letter, the Premiers say they’re deeply concerned about the affordability effects of carbon pricing on households in the region.
They say almost 40 per cent of Atlantic Canadians experience energy poverty and that’s by far the highest rate in the country.
They say an extension would allow them to engage in meaningful conversations on solutions for heating fuels and to discuss options for Ottawa to support energy affordability in the region.
They’re asking the federal government to respond to the request by noon tomorrow.
