Municipality Preparing For Possible Strike By Inside Workers

The Regional Municipality says it’s exploring options for continuing service delivery that could be affected by a possible strike by inside workers.

CUPE Local 933 voted to go on strike on July 27th but the municipality says it’s still working toward an agreement.

The local represents 138 workers in the citizen service centre, as well as other departments like public works, transit and facilities, 911 and 311 and police records and lock up staff.

Mayor Amanda McDougall says most services used by the public are still expected to be available if there is a strike.

She says that includes 911, 311, police non-emergency and public works 24-hour contacts.

She says administrative activities like payment processing, building permits and inspections will also continue.

If no agreement is reached, a strike could happen early next month.
