by An independent panel has been appointed to review MLA pay starting today.
Speaker Keith Bain has appointed Dalhousie University Professor Ajay Parasram, commercial lawyer Burtley Francis and labour lawyer Kyle MacIsaac as members of the panel.
MLA’s are now paid about $89,000 a year.
The panel will also review the pay of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Premier, other party leaders and cabinet ministers.
The province says pensions, expenses and allowances now fall outside the statutory jurisdiction of the review and will not be considered
The panel’s report is due this summer.
