Ski Cape Smokey Given Federal Loan

Ottawa says it’s trying to help Ski Cape Smokey stay open longer every year.

A $950,000 loan was announced today to help the ski hill buy new snow-making equipment.

The funding comes through the federal government’s Canada Coal Transition Initiative Infrastructure Fund.

ACOA says the ski hill will be adding a new groomer and snowmaking equipment half-way up the mountain and the equipment will allow the hill to open as early as November this year and stay open until April.

It says the two-month extension of the season will boost tourism in the area.
