Housing Options In Cape Breton On Agenda At Legislature Committee Meeting

The Legislature’s standing committee on community services focused on housing options in Cape Breton at this morning’s meeting.

Committee Vice-Chair and Glace Bay MLA John White noted people in Cape Breton wait about six months longer for public housing compared to the rest of the province.

White says that’s not acceptable to him.

Cape Breton Island Housing Authority director Shawn Luker told the committee he doesn’t know why the wait is longer in Cape Breton.

Nova Scotia Housing CEO Stephen MacIsaac says they’ve been asked by the government to come up with consistent policies and procedures across the province.

He says they’ve identified some changes that could be made to the application process.
