Regional Municipality Passes Budget With Tax Cuts

Regional Councillors voted this afternoon to support a revised $162-million operating budget that includes a five percent cut to residential and commercial taxes.

About $3.8 million had to be found in the budget for the cuts.

Most of that came from money earlier set aside for capital spending, including $1 million for the library, over $700,000 for J-Class Roads and over $500,000 for Centre 200.

Councillors also voted today to approve changes to the low income tax exemption policy.

The changes increase the rebate to $300 and increase the income cut-off to $35,000 per household.
