Province Says New Policy Means Paramedics Can Start Working Sooner

The Department of Health says a new policy approved by the College of Paramedics means graduating paramedics can start working in their field sooner.

It says graduates of the province’s paramedic program and equivalent programs elsewhere in Canada can now get a restricted temporary licence.

The license allows them to work under the supervision of a paramedic with at least two years practical experience while they wait to write the exam to give them a full license.

The province says some graduates wait months to write the exam and get their licence.

It says the temporary licence means graduates can start working up to six months sooner.
