The province says people 30 and over are now able to book an appointment for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.
Thousands of Pfizer appointments opened up earlier this week but those were restricted to people 12 to 29 years old.
The province says that’s because people 12-17 can only get Pfizer as a first or second dose and that brand is also strongly recommended for people 18 to 29 for their first, second or booster dose.
The province says those decisions were made based on evidence of a rare but increased risk of inflammation of the heart muscle or tissue surrounding the heart for young adults from the Moderna compared to the Pfizer vaccine.
Anyone 30 or older with a Moderna appointment is being asked to keep it so they can get vaccinated sooner and reduce waste of vaccines.
