Explosion On Bulk Carrier Sends Crew Members To Hospital In Sydney

Five crew members were sent to hospital in Sydney after an explosion on a Canadian Steamship Lines bulk carrier earlier this week.

Coast Guard spokesperson Steve Bornais says a local vessel was sent to help the CSL Kajika after the explosion was reported shortly after 1:30 Monday afternoon.

The boat anchored in Sydney Harbour after that.

Bornais says methane ignited on the ship, but there’s no more information at this time about what caused the explosion or the nature of the injuries from the blast.
