Houston, Adams Announce More Long-Term Care Funding

Premier Tim Houston and Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Barbara Adams announced this morning the Province is spending about $57 million to add staff and beds to long-term care.

The government says the single biggest investment is $22 million over the next two years to cover 100 per cent of tuition costs for students in continuing care assistant programs.

The CBBC Career College in Sydney has already started offering a new curriculum for continuing care assistants.

It allows students to study three days a week and work for two days.

$8 million is being earmarked to allow long-term care homes to offer casual and part-time workers full-time positions or to hire more staff.

$6.1 million is going to convert beds in residential care facilities and assisted living facilities to nursing home level care.
