Province Extends Rent Cap And Pledges To Spend Nearly $35 Million On Affordable Housing

Premier Tim Houston and Housing Minister John Lohr announced a number of measures this morning meant to address the housing crisis.

They say the Progressive Conservative government will extend the current two percent a year rent cap under the pandemic state of emergency to December 31st of 2023.

They’re also pledging to spend nearly $35 million to build more than 1,100 new affordable housing units across the province.

They say the Province is identifying a list of provincially-owned properties that can be used for housing.

10.1 million dollars is being pledged over two years to provide shelter for people who are homeless.
