Vince Ryan Tournament Going Ahead In 2022

The annual Vince Ryan Memorial Hockey Tournament will be held this coming winter.

Tournament Chair Richie Warren announced today the tournament will run from March 17th-March 20th.

The adult hockey tournament brings teams from across Canada and the US to a number of rinks in the Regional Municipality but there was some concern the events might not go ahead this year because of COVID-19.

Warren says there’s a lot of demand for the tournament and organizers also noted teams like the Q League’s Cape Breton Eagles are now able to have people attend games during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Mayor Amanda McDougall says she’s excited to hear the tournament is going ahead.

She says the tournament will also have positive economic effects as the tourism sector and other local businesses try to recover from the effects of the pandemic.
