Province Announces Mandatory Vaccines For Some Workers, Changes To Phase 5

The province is making vaccines mandatory for people in certain jobs, including healthcare workers, long-term care workers, teachers, paramedics and people in facilities run by the Department of Community Services.

Premier Tim Houston made the announcement this afternoon.

Those covered by the rule will have until November 30th to get vaccinated.

If they don’t, they’ll be put on unpaid administrative leave.

The province also announced today it will be keeping some of its public health restrictions in place when it enters the fifth phase of its COVID-19 reopening on Monday of next week.

Houston says the changes are necessary because of rising case numbers.

Among the changes, masks will continue to be mandatory in indoor public places.

Physical distancing and gathering limits for events hosted by a recognized business or organization will be lifted, however, the informal gathering limits of 25 people indoors and 50 outdoors will remain in place

Proof of full vaccination will be required for non-essential events and activities when Phase 5 starts.
