The provincial government says Nova Scotia will recognized the annual Truth and Reconciliation Day, starting on September 30th of this year.
It says provincial government offices, schools and regulated childcare will be closed on that day.
It also says businesses will be able to choose whether they stay open.
The province says the day will acknowledge the legacy of Canada’s residential schools and the role it plays in the reconciliation process.
The federal government passed legislation in June creating a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Nova Scotia joins British Columbia., Manitoba and the Northwest Territories in also recognizing the day as a holiday.
