Public Health Warns Of Longer Summer Wait Times

Public Health says people who go to hospital emergency departments will likely have higher-than-usual wait times throughout the summer.

However, health officials are reminding people emergency departments at Regional Hospitals are open 24/7, including at the Regional Hospital in Sydney, and people are being urged to visit their nearest emergency department if they have a medical emergency.

Anyone with urgent medical needs is being asked to call 911.

Public Health’s notice comes as the Glace Bay Emergency Department remains closed until the end of the month because of what’s being called a lack of doctor and nursing coverage.

The Emergency Department on the Northside is closed to redirect resources to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Emergency Department in New Waterford is closed for maintenance.
