Nova Scotia Health says the National Microbiology Lab has identified 56 of the province’s previously reported cases were caused by variants, including the Delta variant.
Twenty cases were due to the Delta strain, while 36 were the result of the Alpha variant, also known as the UK strain or B117.
The Delta variant is up to 60% more contagious than the Alpha variant.
Vaccines appear to be less effective against the Delta variant, but they are still highly effective at preventing disease after two doses.
