Moncton man arrested in Cape Breton for eluding police, dangerous driving

A Moncton man is facing a multitude of charges after Cape Breton RCMP say he eluded police and drove dangerously around the island.

Police say an RCMP officer first spotted a speeding SUV on Grand Lake Road at around ten to eight Saturday night.  When the officer tried to stop the car, a blue Mazda CX-5 reported stolen from the Moncton area, it sped away.  Police say they broke off their pursuit as there was no safe way to stop the car.

The blue SUV was spotted by police on Kings Road, and then was safely brought to a halt by a spike strip near River Bourgeois just after 9 PM.

Twenty-six-year-old Jordan Maxime Arsenault faces several charges, including two counts of flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime over 5000 dollars, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He’s being held in custody until he appears in court tomorrow.
