People who have to take time off work because of COVID-19 can now qualify for up to four paid sick days under the province’s new Sick Leave Program.
The province says the $16 million program is expected to distribute money to more than 100,000 people.
People who can’t work remotely and miss less than half of their scheduled work time in a one-week period may be eligible.
That includes people waiting for a PCR test, as well as those who are getting tested, are self-isolating while waiting for results, or are going to get vaccinated.
Any sick days taken between May 10 and July 31 may be eligible for the program.
The program covers wages, including wages of self-employed people, up to a maximum of $20 per hour or $160 per day.
The maximum payment over the 12-week period is $640 per worker.
