Regional Council Approves Operating Budget

Regional Council has voted to support a proposed operating budget of nearly $157.4 million with a transfer of $125,000 from the operating reserve.

The budget includes no service or program cuts or planned increases in tax rates.

The budget also includes funding for heavy garbage collection but a date for it has yet to be set.

Heavy garbage was a recurring topic during today’s budget deliberations.

District 8 Councillor James Edwards says people in his district are strongly in favour of having the service on a regular annual basis.

Chief Administrative Officer Marie Walsh says staff will let the public know as soon as possible when heavy garbage collection will be happening.
