Council Approves Amendment Option For Sydney Medical Clinic

Council approved a by-law amendment option for a proposed medical clinic in a Sydney residential neighbourhood at last night’s Council meeting.

Dr. Margaret Fraser wants to turn a property at 46 Cottage Road into a clinic.

However, the municipality’s planners say medical clinics haven’t been allowed to operate in residential heritage zones since the early 2000’s.

Council chose an option that will acknowledge medical clinics as an essential service and treat them differently from other businesses.

The municipality will now hold a public hearing on the proposed amendment.
