SIRT Investigating Assault Complaint Involving Regional Police

The province’s police watchdog is investigating Cape Breton Regional Police officers accused of assaulting a man during an arrest.

The Serious Incident Response Team says it was contacted by Regional Police in February about an arrest that happened on August 29th.

It says Regional Police were told by a third party the man suffered serious injuries during the arrest.

SIRT is not saying where the arrest happened.

It says it started investigating the case in February but investigators were not able to speak with the affected person until March 30th because of COVID-19 restrictions.
