Rita MacNeil Named To Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame

The late Rita MacNeil is the newest inductee to the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, today.

MacNeil is being inducted into the Calgary-based Hall of Fame on the anniversary of her death on April 16, 2013.

An induction presentation will take place at the East Coast Music Awards in Sydney on May 6th.

The presentation will include a musical tribute performed by a cast of Rita’s former bandmates, friends and more.

The Hall of Fame says some of MacNeil’s best-known songs often spoke of Nova Scotia.

However, it also says her cross-genre appeal and immense talent resonated with Canadians across the country and with people globally.
