People in the province between the ages of 55 and 64 can now book an appointment to get the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Provincial officials say that group is within the age range recommended by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization.
All provinces and territories have suspended the use of the AstraZeneca shot for people under 55, pending further investigation on reported cases of rare blood clots.
But chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang says if Health Canada didn’t believe the vaccine is safe, it would not be part of the vaccine program.
He says the province is expecting 38,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to arrive this week.
