Two Cape Breton women charged with animal cruelty

Two Cape Breton women are facing multiple animal cruelty charges.

77-year-old Joan Alexis LeRoy is facing 11 charges, including six counts of causing animals to be in distress and two counts of abandoning or willfully neglecting an animal.

LeRoy operates Twin Lighthouse Farm, which was once a popular visiting site for schools and other community groups.

She’s due in court on June 10.

Meanwhile, 41-year-old Erica Sudworth, of Dutch Brook, is facing four charges, including two counts of causing an animal to be in distress and a single count of willfully causing unnecessary pain.

Sudworth is also scheduled to appear in court on June 10.
