Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says the province will continue to use the AstraZeneca vaccine for people between the ages of 60 and 64.
This comes as National Advisory Council On Immunization recommends the vaccine not be used on people under age 55 because of a risk of rare blood clots.
Strang says the risk of blood clots is lower in people over 55 while the health risks from COVID-19 are higher.
Strang also told reporters today the timeline for vaccinating everyone in the province might be pushed back if there’s any change in the number of AstraZeneca shots being sent to Nova Scotia.
The province had been aiming to get a vaccine to everyone who wants one by June.
Strang says it’s still unclear how that timeline might be changed.
