The province is introducing new restrictions in parts of the Central Zone today as it reports 10 new cases of COVID-19.
One of those cases is in the Cape Breton Community Health Network that covers the Regional Municipality.
Health officials say it’s related to travel outside Atlantic Canada and the person is self-isolating as required.
Nine of today’s new cases are in the Central Zone.
There’s now a total of 35 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia, including four in the Cape Breton Community Health Network.
Premier Iain Rankin is asking people across the province to limit their activities over the weekend as case numbers rise.
The new restrictions announced today will be in place for four weeks in parts of the Halifax area and some neighbouring municipalities.
They affect restaurants and bars, long-term care homes, sports and arts and cultural events.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says if case numbers keep going up over the next week, health officials will start looking at more restrictions and expanding the restrictions to other parts of the province.
