Regional Hospital to add new maternal and newborn unit

The Cape Breton Regional Hospital is adding a new maternal and newborn services unit to its redevelopment plans.

Sydney-Whitney Pier MLA Derek Mombourquette says the new unit is going to provide better access to care for mothers and their newborn babies.

Mombourquette says the new, state-of-the-art facility is being added to the already-planned construction at the hospital.

The Cape Breton Regional Healthcare Redevelopment Project is expected to take upwards of seven years.

It includes a major expansion of the Regional Hospital, a renovated emergency department in Glace Bay, and a new health centre and long-term care home on the Northside.
