NS Relaxes COVID Restrictions, Reports No New Cases

The province is loosening some COVID-19 restrictions as it reports no new cases of the virus today.

However, the province is extending its COVID-19 State of Emergency until February 21st.

Premier Stephen McNeil says he’s glad to see case numbers are staying low in the province, but the loosening of restrictions will be reversed if things get worse.

Among the rules being relaxed are gathering limits.

Recognized businesses and groups will be able to host outdoor events with up to 150 people and indoor events at 50 percent of the venue’s capacity up to a hundred people.

All such events will have to stop serving food or alcohol by 10:00 at night and end by 11:00.

Centre 200 in Sydney and Scotiabank Centre in Halifax can have multiple groups of 150 because of their size.

The gathering limit remains at 10 people for households or informal gatherings and there are no changes to rules for restaurants and bars.

The relaxed rules take effect on Monday.
