McDonald Becomes Top Soldier

A New Waterford native has become Canada’s top soldier.

Art McDonald became Chief of Defence Staff in a hand-over ceremony this afternoon.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced last month McDonald was tapped to replace outgoing General Jonathan Vance in the role.

McDonald has served as the chief of the naval staff and commander of the Royal Canadian Navy since June of 2019.

Vance announced in July he was planning to retire by the end of last year.
